Where Geeks Come From

I don't think this requires any explanation, do you? If you do . . . go ask your parents. Seriously, I don't want to have to tell you why this swarm of twenty sided dice are all equipped with little tails and swimming to a common goal.

Available from Cafepress, Zazzle, Printfection, and Spreadshirt where you can also find a vector version.

i Less Than 3 u Card

A Valentine's Day card for the mathematician in your life. If you don't get it, then try writing it out. Or you can cheat and check out the inside of the card here on Zazzle.

Sorry I've been gone for so long, but things got a little hectic for me. Hopefully I'll be able to get things back on their regular schedule again.

Fickle Pirate

Yarr, September 19th, 2008, Talk Like a Pirate Day, it were. I was chattin' in Pirate Speak with a friend of mine when, for reasons I no longer recall, I spoke, "I be fickle." At that moment I saw this here fickle pirate in me head and knew I had to draw it. With a smoking pistol in one hand and a bunch of flowers in the other, this pirate just can't decide how he's feeling right now.

Available in Blue or Red from Spreadshirt, Cafepress, and Zazzle.

Dino Mask

It's a dinosaur wearing a gas mask and carrying an air tank. What more is there to say? I know it's kind of weird. I was flying home one day and I saw a cloud out the window that looked like . . . well, a dinosaur wearing a gas mask and carrying air tanks on its back. So I sketched it out and started putting it on t-shirts and tote bags and random other stuff on Cafepress, Zazzle, Printfection, and Spreadshirt. I even made different versions, like one drawn with white lines for dark shirts, a vector version, and one that looks like it was printed on really old paper.

More recently I took the Old Paper version and used it to create a fabric design on Spoonflower.

I also modeled a 3D version of it on my computer and put it up for sale on Turbosquid, just because I liked it so much, but I can't really see anyone finding a use for it. I've included a demo spin of it at the bottom.

I've never really figured out what his story was. I mean, a dinosaur wearing a gas mask? Why? What's it all about? If you have an idea, feel free to comment and let me know.

Tech Support Penguin

I saw him in a smudge on a wall one day. A half annoyed, half depressed penguin in a short sleeved shirt and necktie sitting on his butt and glaring. For some reason, he just looked like he belonged in Tech Support, dealing with whatever crap angry, confused customers could throw at him. There are five different versions. Tech support Penguin says, "That's not a cup holder." and "Unplug it and count to ten." or asks "Is it plugged in?", "Is the monitor on?" and "Have you tried restarting it?" Available on Cafepress and Zazzle.

Pi R Rounded

If you learn nothing else from me remember the following.  Pi r rounded. Cobbler r squared. I don't care what your books tell you. I don't care what your teacher tells you. I have seen my fair share of pi over the years and there is nothing square about it! Cobbler, on the other hand, has very definite corners. Unless you go to a buffet that serves cobbler and you'll usually find that the corners were the first things to go.

I'm getting hungry just thinking about this. If you want to help keep me supplied with pie and cobbler, then feel free to check this shirt out on Cafepress or Zazzle.

Vampire and Zombie Uprising

The shirts are basically the same, so I'm posting them at the same time.

Vampire Uprising

You call it "Overkill" I call it "Preventing a vampire uprising." Available on Cafepress and Zazzle.

Zombie Uprising

You call it "Overkill" I call it "Preventing a zombie uprising." Available on Cafepress and Zazzle.

Doesn't matter which one you're fighting, sometimes you've got to go above and beyond to stop an undead uprising. Whether it's a steak through the heart or a bullet in the brain, you can never be too careful when you need to know that the dead stay dead. I don't care how many times the authorities call me "Over zealous" or "A raving lunatic" or "A danger to society as we know it" you do what you've got to do.

Heart Steampunk

"I <3 Steampunk" with a heart of gears. I'm no expert on steampunk and I've never gotten that deep into it However, it's an aesthetic that I've always found interesting and I had to do something for it, even if it was just a clockwork heart. Yes, I know there's more to steampunk than gears, but I like gears and I think it turned out well.

Available on Cafepress, Zazzle, Printfection, and Spreadshirt (with designs for both light and dark shirts).

Oh, and by the way, don't worry. This will be the last of the "I <3 Something" designs for a while. Definitely something new next week.

Heart Ninjas

"I <3 Ninjas" with a ninja heart dressed in black. Of course it's clearly not a very good ninja, since it's already got a throwing star sticking out of its . . . face? Yeah, let's call it a face for lack of a better term. Just be careful when you're wearing this and you run into someone wearing an I <3 Pirates shirt. I hear there's a bit of a rivalry. Better get this on a dark shirt so you can blend into the shadows until you know it's safe.

Available on Cafepress, Zazzle, Printfection, and Spreadshirt (with designs for both light and dark shirts).

Heart Zombies

"I <3 zombies" with a rotten, green, zombie heart complete with claw marks, bite marks, and . . . a brain, somehow. That's right. A brain in the heart. Don't ask me if that makes any sense.

Available on Cafepress, Zazzle, Printfection, and Spreadshirt (with designs for both light and dark shirts).

Heart Pirates

"I <3 Pirates" with a pirate heart. How can I tell it's a pirate heart? Well, the eye patch and pirate hat are a bit of a giveaway. Not to mention I'm sure it went "ARRRR!" once... I should probably see a cardiologist about that.

I know it may be a little late to get this for Talk Like A Pirate Day (Yes, it is a thing, in case you were unaware of this) coming up this Thursday, but there's no reason you can't start preparing for next year. Heck, I've already seen ads on TV for Christmas (In SEPTEMBER? What the F**K is wrong with you, Kmart?!) so clearly it's time to get some shirts with pirate hearts ready for September 19, 2014. Quick! Before it's too late!

Check them out on Cafepress, Zazzle, Spreadshirt (versions for light or dark shirts) and Printfection. Now sit back and relax. There's going to be a bunch more like this coming up in the next few weeks.

Smiley Cthulhu

Have a nice day, while you still can. Because we all know it's only a matter of time before the stars align, the sunken city of R'lyeh rises, and dread Cthulhu awakens to destroy reality as we know it. Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!

*Cough! Cough!*

Oh, my, I'm not sure what happened there. Did I say something odd again? Sorry. Keep having this fits and visions. I'm sure it's nothing. Probably just need to drink more water. Anyway, this sunny yellow, tentacled, Cthulhu Smiley Face is available on Cafepress, Zazzle, Printfection, and Spreadshirt (Where it's in a vector format so you can adjust the colors to suit your own needs). Proudly display your support of this Great Old One and maybe, just maybe, he'll eat you last.

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

Vitruvian Alien

Leonardo Da Vinci's lesser known Vitruvian Alien. The Vitruvian Man is one of those iconic images that everyone knows, even if we didn't know it was called that. It's an illustration of human proportions and is based on Vitruvius's ideal human. Here we see what would have been his ideal alien's proportions. Available from Cafepress, Zazzle, Spreadshirt, and Printfection.

I've also got a vector version on Spreadshirt so you can customize the colors to suit the shirt and your tastes.

Mouse Crossing

I don't know what this is about. It just popped into my head one morning, so I made it. Why would you need a sign for a mouse crossing? Come up with your own reasons, and let me know, ok? I think it makes the most sense on mouse pads, of course, but I've also got it on mugs and shirts both on Zazzle and Cafepress. I've also got the design available on Spreadshirt so you can place it on items of your own choosing.

Booting Up

This is for all my coffee drinking computer geek friends out there. I can't claim to be a fan of the stuff, myself. I've always preferred chocolate. However, I've known a lot of people who seem to run on the stuff. So I made this for everyone out there who needs some caffeine in the morning to get their systems up and running. Available from Cafepress and Zazzle.

Goa'Uld On Board

"Goa'uld on board" sign. It's the only design I've come up with so far that I really think works on Cafepress's maternity shirts. It's available on other t-shirts as well but not a particularly wide variety of products. If you're interested in seeing it on anything that's not currently available or on any of my other stores, please let me know.

If you don't get the joke then clearly you were never a fan of Stargate SG-1. The Goa'uld were a parasitic alien species that infested human hosts and used advanced technology to pose as gods and subjugate entire planets full of people they had abducted from ancient Earth.

Vote Beeblebrox

Years back, (2005, I believe), a friend of mine asked for a button that said "Vote Beeblebrox!" Guess she wasn't entirely satisfied with the candidates she had available that year. Would Zaphod Beeblebrox make a good president? I doubt it, but we've survived worse. Available on Cafepress and Zazzle. She asked for a bumper sticker, too. Also available on Cafepress and Zazzle. The bumper stickers on Zazzle have a little more white space on the sides than the Cafepress ones, but apart from that they're the same.

iPatch

Heh, it just came to me out of the blue, you know? Once described as "Perfect for your favorite mp3 pirate," but that din't actually have anything to do with it when I first thought it up. I just thought a dancing pirate would be funny after seeing all those old iPod commercials from years back. Ironically, some jerk stole this design and was selling it on his own shirts. As a result, this was the first design I had copy written rather than just relying on people's good nature and honesty. Available from Cafepress, Zazzle, Spreadshirt (Vector version), Printfection, and MySoti.

This is one of my oldest designs and frankly it's a bit out of date. It got pretty popular in it's prime but that's long past now. I even saw a lot of people using as their avatars on forums (No, I have no problem with that, just don't go selling it, for crying out loud.) If you don't remember what it's making fun of then feel free to look up the old iPod commercials on YouTube. That's where I found this:

Geeky Designs for Sale

As I continue to break down the designs showcased in my Newest Items page I certainly cannot forget the designs that have become the backbone of my ever growing collection. Yes, the ones designed for geeks, by a geek, and often inspired through conversation with other geeks.

These are available for sale on all my various online stores such as CafepressZazzle, Spreadshirt, Printfection, Spoonflower, Shapeways, and MySoti. The Spreadshirt page is for my shop, where I've got t-shirts already designed but you can design your own by clicking here, then "Choose Design", and search for "will la puerta". Some of those links will take you right to geeky designs, but some stores don't have categories to keep things organized like that. You can also keep up with all my latest additions on the Reaper Media Facebook Page.

What is a Geek?

The definition seems to vary depending on who you ask and I certainly can't make a claim on the definitive answer, but I am willing to voice an opinion. As far as I'm concerned, a geek is someone who takes an unusual amount of interest in something that tends to be under appreciated by most everyone else. Memorize the stats for your favorite football team and you're a sports fan. Study the blueprints for the Enterprise and you're a geek. Of course you have to admit that is pretty darn geeky.
"Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It's basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating."
- Simon Pegg
